Public Safety Announcement

The Annual Locus Poll is now up at https://secure.locusmag.com/2006/Issues/2006PollAndSurvey.html
A free copy of the magazine goes to Locus subscribers, but anyone is welcome to respond.
(By the way, the Locus free-issue-with-me-in-to-subscribers-coming-from-here offer still applies -- details at:

And now, a blindingly obvious Public Safety Announcement:

If someone comes to your door with a homemade tattoo gun, and offers to give you a cheap tattoo, don't think "Whoa. I could save, like, half an hour it would take me to go to a real tattoo parlour. And like, dude, this guy is cheap." Don't be like Tamra Eason, who got the tattoo and said, "It was wrapped with black tape, had a pin underneath it, had fishing wire going through it, you could tell it was a homemade gun." But she also said, "We just wanted tattoos and now we're paying for it."
All of the women have developed infections where they received the tattoos, one of them even had to be hospitalized.
The Health Department said it is always worth the extra money to get a tattoo from a licensed professional with the right equipment and sterilization procedures

Remember -- Think Once, Think Twice, Think "Don't Get A Tattoo From a Guy At The Door With A Homemade Tattoo gun".

There's an honestly-not-bitter complaint from http://quotableneil.blogspot.com/ that there isn't an official link to it from this site. Soon, I'm sure there will be. In the meantime, it seems to be shaping up into an excellent This Blog -- The Good Bits site.

Neil,I like the new site a lot, but understand others' dismay. Your web team can find out what to do by visiting http://www.csszengarden.com.I looked at the source code of your site and it seems very close to being able to provide customizable, one-click "skins" that could satisfy any aesthetic. You could even provide the opportunity for fans to submit CSS files to share and apply. One look at the above site will make everything clear.Best, Jeff

You know, that's really cool -- especially if people could share their designs. Let me see what I can do.
