There’s key lime pie in the fridge, ‘cos yesterday was Devlin’s birthday.

This is the last pie I made.

Chicken and leek and tarragon and there were some mushrooms too.

And pastry. There was pastry.

Ooh. Now I want pie for dinner AND dessert.

Happy Birthday to Dev, who I can't believe is 20 years old already!
I mean, all you get is one trick, rational thinking. But when you're good and crazy, ooh ooh ooh, the sky's the limit!

I'm hoping to finally have the time and energy to make some pies in the upcoming weeks: sweet and savory.

Disappointing Pumpkin.

Even though they were fresh pie pumpkins, bland af. All the flavour came from the spices (mace, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, clove, black pepper). First time making a pumpkin pie and possibly not going to again. Not unless I can source pumpkins that have some flavour.

Honestly, don't bother roasting your own pumpkins. The canned stuff, Libby's specifically, is the way to go, even for the professionals.

I made a crapapple pie the other morning. Frozen gluten-free crust which performed poorly, apples, spices, cider & falernum, which was pretty good, and granola topping. Shoulda mixed the granola in, ‘cause it ended up a bit dark. I thought juices would come up from below, but after rewatching The Cabin in the Woods the other night, I should’ve realized that nothing good comes up from below..

That said, with a side of black coffee, it’s still pie...
Yep. *that* fduncan. Board-crasher, right-coaster, fat-thumbed grammar nebish
