It has come to my realization later in life that if I had not listened to my parents early on, I would be a millionaire right now.
Most dungeons & dragons players are misunderstood by typical society, but if you are an artist that is dedicated to drawing the wizards, the fighters, and the dragons, undoubtedly you will encounter parents and advisors, and anyone in typical society that will try to move to break you from your spell, in order to save you from your "dreamer ways".
This was especially true of me because in high school, I was being paid up to a dollar per drawing to capture visual interpretations of individual characters undergoing some of their most heroic exploits.(After all, it was believed that I was being led down the wrong path by money and the delusion of creating a career out at the same path.)

I was one of these artists, and I was well on my way to understanding how to incorporate ink on paper to encapsulate dragons and wizards when I was cock blocked by my parents who told me in no uncertain terms, "you can't make a living doing that sort of thing, you need to stop this and become a regular person before you ruin your life."
I shit you not, they actually said this crap to me at the tender age of 13 to 17, and my dumb ass actually believed them...

It's horrific to realize all the total bullshit that I put myself through to follow their misguided advice only to come full circle at the age of 35 to 45 and put myself back into that seat making those wizards and those dragons (having graduated to paint at that point). But I missed so much time believing in that my elders' advice, simply because I knew that they had my best interest at heart. ((Never once realizing that their best intentions had absolutely nothing to do with my own dreams.))

At 55 years old, I spend all my waking hours painting those very pictures that they told me so many years ago that I would not ever make a living at... And I implore any Dreamer to follow your dreams and to disregard anyone that doesn't have your dreams in mind when they try to dissuade you from them. SURE, they really do you mean the best for you in most cases, but they have absolutely no idea what path that the Universe has set you upon. They have no idea of the magic that is in your soul, and even though they are looking out for your best interests from their point of view, you will do yourself a great Injustice by abandoning your dreams to make them feel more secure about your future.

I don't know if this actually qualifies for the David Bowie thread, but I wanted to put it down in virtual ink for future travelers that might be at the right moment in there careers to witness this revelation in 'real time, from a man that is realizing the great disservice that was offered him when he was in the prime of his life by those that loved him the most, but whom had absolutely no idea what the FUCK they were talking about.

Follow your dreams, do not be dissuaded. Honor your soul's path at all costs so that you don't end up as a middle-aged person trying to catch up with their teenage Dream, after the fact.

Also, I have been reduced to an Android. For all these tech responses and I no longer have access to a laptop so finding my way around has become something of a chore. So I'm not even sure if I'm posting correctly anymore. But if you ever want to remind me to come back and reply, I will do my best to find the message and do so. I miss you guys.

Thanks to "Security for YOUR Protection™" B.S., it's becoming more and more difficult to log on to ANY website regardless of your Operating System or browser. Not your fault, Art, and it isn't the Board's fault either.

Quickest fix (using Firefox/Windows as an example) is to TURN OFF some of these unnecessary gatekeepers, allowing all cookies:

Another workaround are the solutions I discuss in this thread.
